Install Cortex on a Moxa or Linux device

From a Windows PC, over an Ethernet cable. The Cortex Device Manager does the install; this guide follows its screens.

Step 1: Get ready

Cortex goes onto a Moxa or other Linux device from a Windows PC, using the Cortex Device Manager. The manager reaches the device over an Ethernet cable (SSH), installs Cortex and sets it up. Neither the PC nor the device needs internet during the install.

You need

  • A Windows 10 or 11 PC and an Ethernet cable.
  • A supported device: a Moxa UC-2200 or UC-3420A series computer (Debian 11 or 13, ARM64). For a Windows computer, use the Windows guide instead.
  • The device's own login, with administrator (sudo) rights. A UC-2200A leaves the factory with moxa / moxa.
  • The device's IP address. A new UC-2200A answers on its LAN 2 port at 192.168.4.127. For a UC-3420A, or a device someone has already set up, check its quick installation guide or ask your IT team.
  • Your PowerFlex 525 drives cabled to the same Ethernet network as the device.
  • A password of at least 8 characters for the Cortex web administrator.

Download before you go to the machine

Download CortexDeployer-1.0.0.exe in step 2 on the PC you will install from, not on the device. It carries the Cortex package, so the device never has to reach the internet.
